Privacy Policy
Last updated: 21 September 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how CricSpeedo, the bowling speed app for Android
(package com.cricspeedo.myapp), and the website cricspeedo.com handle information:
what is used, why, how long it is kept, who helps us process it, and the choices you have.
“CricSpeedo”, “we” and “us” mean the developer of the CricSpeedo app.
The short version
- No sign-up. CricSpeedo has no accounts and never asks for your name, email address or phone number.
- Your clip is used only to measure the speed. The video you record or upload is sent to our servers, turned into frames, and deleted automatically.
- Your Records stay on your phone. Your recent speed results are saved on your device, not on our servers.
- Free with non-personalised ads. Ads are provided by Google AdMob and are not based on your interests.
- Usage statistics help us fix problems. The app counts things like how many measurements succeed, never your videos or anything that names you.
- We never sell your data.
1. How CricSpeedo works
To measure a delivery, you tap Record video to film a clip of up to 6 seconds with your camera, or Upload video to choose a short clip already on your phone. The app uploads the clip to our servers, which extract still frames and their timestamps. You then scroll and zoom through the frames, mark the Release and Impact frames, choose the pitch type (66 ft for hard ball or 58 ft for tennis ball, or type your own distance) and tap Calculate speed. The app shows the speed in km/h and mph and saves it to your Records.
2. Information the app handles
The video you measure
When you record or upload a clip, the app sends that one video to our servers. CricSpeedo only needs the picture: clips recorded in the app are recorded without sound, and if a video you upload from your gallery contains sound, it is removed as soon as the video reaches our servers, before anything is stored. On our servers the clip may be compressed, still frames are extracted from it, and those frames are sent back to the app for you to review.
We use your clip only to measure the ball speed you asked for. We do not watch or review clips, we do not try to identify the people in them, and we do not use them for any other purpose.
Measurement details
To calculate the speed, the app sends the pitch distance, the Release and Impact frames you selected and their times (including any times you edited), and a random session number that links the steps of one measurement together. None of this identifies you.
App permissions
- Camera is requested when you tap Record video. It is used only while the in-app camera is open, and recording stops automatically after 6 seconds. CricSpeedo does not ask for the microphone and never records sound.
- Photos and videos access is used when you tap Upload video. On newer Android versions the app opens Android’s photo picker, which gives it only the video you choose; on older versions Android may ask you to allow access to photos and media first. Either way, the app reads only the video you select.
- Internet access is needed to upload clips, calculate speeds and show ads.
You can refuse the camera permission and still measure a video you upload, and you can change any permission at any time in your phone’s Settings. CricSpeedo does not use your location, contacts or any other personal files.
Information saved only on your phone
The app keeps a small amount of information on your device. None of it is sent to us:
- Records: your five most recent results, each with the speed in km/h and mph, the pitch distance, and the date and time;
- Ad-free credits: how many credits you have earned by watching optional rewarded ads;
- a count of completed measurements, used to decide when to ask you to rate the app.
If Android backup is turned on for your phone, Android may include this information in the backup it stores in your Google Account, under Google’s terms. Clearing the app’s storage or uninstalling the app deletes it from your phone.
Advertising
CricSpeedo is free to use because it shows ads from Google AdMob:
- a full-screen app open ad when you open the app, except the first time after installing it; the app opens without it if none is ready within a few seconds, and you can close it once it shows;
- a banner ad at the bottom of the frame review screen;
- native ads, clearly marked “AD”, on the home, speed result and Records screens;
- a full-screen ad before a speed result is shown, unless you use an ad-free credit to skip it;
- an optional rewarded ad in the Ad-free credits section, which earns one credit when you watch it to the end.
The app asks Google for non-personalised ads only, so ads are not chosen based on your past activity or interests. Even so, the Google Mobile Ads SDK in the app collects information such as your device’s advertising ID, IP address (from which an approximate location can be inferred), device and app details, how you interact with ads, and diagnostic information, and sends it to Google. Google uses it to deliver ads, limit how often you see the same ad, measure ad performance and prevent fraud. See How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services and the Google Privacy Policy.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, the app shows Google’s consent message and does not load any ads until your choice allows it. Ads never hold back a speed result: if no ad is available, the result opens straight away.
Rating the app
After you have completed a couple of measurements, the app may show Google Play’s in-app review so you can rate CricSpeedo. Anything you submit there is handled by Google Play under Google’s terms, in the same way as a review left in the Play Store.
Usage statistics in the app
The app uses Google Analytics for Firebase to count how it is used, so we can find what fails and fix it. It records events such as opening a screen, starting and finishing a recording, a video upload succeeding or failing (with the error message), the camera failing to start, a speed being calculated (the speed in km/h and the pitch distance), and earning an ad-free credit. With each event Google Analytics also receives an app instance ID created for this install, your phone’s model and Android version, the app version, and an approximate location worked out from your IP address. It does not receive your videos, frames or Records, and the app does not give it your advertising ID.
Google Analytics also receives the Google Play campaign tags of the link you installed from, if any (for example, that you came from our website or our YouTube channel), so we can see which links bring people to the app.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, usage statistics are collected only if the choice you make in Google’s consent message allows measuring content performance; you can change it any time with Privacy settings on the Records screen. Elsewhere they are collected while you use the app. Google processes them for us under the Google Privacy Policy, and we see them only as statistics.
Technical information
When the app uploads a clip, loads frames or calculates a speed, and when you visit cricspeedo.com, the servers involved automatically receive technical information needed to answer the request, such as your IP address, the time of the request and basic device and network details. Our hosting and cloud providers may keep this in security and operational logs for a limited period. We do not use it to identify you or to build a profile of you.
The website
cricspeedo.com uses Google Analytics to understand how many people visit the
website, how they found it and which pages they read, so we can improve it. When you visit,
Google Analytics sets cookies (named _ga and _ga_59C7NPSLB9) and
collects information such as the pages you view, the website or search that sent you, your
browser and device type, your approximate location based on your IP address, and how long you
stay. Google processes this for us under the
Google Privacy Policy; we
see it only as statistics and do not use it to identify you.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, the website asks first, and Google Analytics sets no cookies unless you choose Accept. Elsewhere they are set when you visit. Wherever you are, you can accept or decline at any time with the Cookie settings link at the bottom of every page; declining also removes the Analytics cookies already set. Your choice is saved in your browser's local storage, not in a cookie.
The website also records when someone taps a Google Play button, and which button it was, so we can see which pages lead people to the app. You can also block these cookies in your browser settings or install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. The website does not show ads. The app’s own statistics are described under Usage statistics in the app.
The contact form
If you use the contact form, we receive the subject, your email address, your description and any files you attach. They are delivered to our support mailbox by email, and we use them only to answer you. We keep them only as long as we need to handle your request and any follow-up, and you can ask us to delete them at any time.
3. Summary for Google Play data safety
This table summarises the data the app collects, in the categories Google Play uses:
| Data | Collected by | Why | Kept for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Videos (picture only; any sound in an uploaded video is removed on arrival) | CricSpeedo, processed by our service providers | App functionality: measuring the speed | Deleted automatically after the measurement (see section 6) |
| Measurement details (pitch distance, selected frames and times) | CricSpeedo | App functionality | Deleted with the video |
| Device or other IDs (advertising ID), approximate location from IP address, ad interactions and diagnostics | Google Mobile Ads SDK, shared with Google | Advertising, ad measurement and fraud prevention | Under Google’s policies |
| App interactions (screens opened, recordings, uploads, results), diagnostics (error messages), app instance ID, device model and Android version, approximate location from IP address | Google Analytics for Firebase, shared with Google | Analytics: finding and fixing problems, and seeing which links bring people to the app | Up to 14 months in Google Analytics |
| Records, ad-free credits and app settings | Not collected: kept only on your phone | App functionality | Until you clear the app’s storage or uninstall |
All data sent by the app travels over encrypted HTTPS connections, and you can ask us to delete data at any time (see section 10).
4. Why we use information
- To measure your delivery: uploading, processing and then deleting your clip. This is necessary to provide the feature you ask for.
- To keep CricSpeedo free: showing ads through Google AdMob, with your consent where the law requires it.
- To improve the app: usage statistics that show which steps fail and on which phones, with your consent where the law requires it.
- To keep the service secure and working: technical logs, preventing abuse and fixing problems, in our legitimate interest in running a reliable app.
We do not sell personal information and we do not use it for personalised advertising.
5. Who we share information with
We use the following service providers, only for the purposes described above:
| Provider | What they do for CricSpeedo | Information involved |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon Web Services (AWS) | Stores clips and extracted frames and runs frame extraction and the speed calculation, in its Asia Pacific (Mumbai) region | Clips, frames, measurement details, technical information |
| Our web hosting provider | Hosts cricspeedo.com, the upload service that receives clips and compresses them where needed, and our support mailbox | Clips while they are uploaded, contact form messages and attachments, technical information |
| Google (AdMob, Google Play, Google Analytics and Firebase) | Delivers and measures ads, shows the consent message, provides the in-app review, counts how the app is used, and measures visits to cricspeedo.com | Advertising ID, device details and ad interactions for ads; app usage events and an app instance ID for usage statistics; pages viewed, device details and approximate location on the website, as described above |
We may also disclose information when the law requires it, to protect the safety and rights of our users or others, or as part of a transfer of the app to a new owner, who would have to keep to this policy.
6. How long clips and frames are kept
Your clip and its frames exist only for as long as a measurement needs them. They are deleted automatically:
- as soon as the speed has been calculated (the result screen confirms that the uploaded video has been removed);
- when you tap Cancel on the frame review screen;
- if the upload or frame processing fails;
- when you return to the app after more than 5 minutes away during a measurement, which closes the session;
- in every other case, for example if the app is closed or loses its connection, by an automatic clean-up on our servers, normally within two hours and always within 24 hours.
Information saved on your phone stays until you clear the app’s storage or uninstall the app. Technical logs are deleted by our providers after a limited period.
7. Security
The app talks to our servers only over encrypted HTTPS connections, the credentials for our cloud storage are kept on our servers and never included in the app, and clips are kept for minutes rather than stored long term.
While a measurement is in progress, the clip and its frames are stored at long, random web addresses that are not published or listed anywhere; the app uses these addresses to show you the frames. Anyone who obtained one of these addresses could open that file until it is deleted, so avoid measuring videos that show anything private. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
8. Children
CricSpeedo is made for a general audience of cricket players and fans and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Young players should use the app with a parent, guardian or coach. If you have a concern about a video a child measured, contact us; as explained above, clips are deleted automatically.
9. Where information is processed
Clips and frames are stored and processed by AWS in India. Our hosting provider and Google may process information in other countries. Wherever it is processed, we protect it as described in this policy.
10. Your choices and rights
- Permissions: allow or remove camera and photos access at any time in your phone’s Settings.
- Records and credits: clear the app’s storage or uninstall the app to delete them. This also resets your ad consent choice, so the consent message is shown again where it applies.
- Advertising ID: reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone’s settings, usually under Privacy › Ads or Google › Ads.
- App usage statistics: in the EEA, UK and Switzerland, change your choice with Privacy settings on the Records screen. Clearing the app’s storage also resets its app instance ID.
- Website analytics: block cookies in your browser or install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
- Deletion: follow the steps on our data deletion page, or email us.
Depending on where you live, including the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and some US states, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal information, to restrict or object to its use, and to complain to your local data protection authority. Because CricSpeedo has no accounts and deletes clips automatically, we usually hold nothing that can be linked to you, but we will answer any request sent to the address below within 30 days.
11. Changes to this policy
We will update this policy when the app, our providers or the law change, and change the “Last updated” date above. If a change is significant, we will also let you know in the app or on this website before it takes effect.
12. Contact us
Questions or requests about this policy or your data: email cricspeedo.com@gmail.com.
