Record in seconds

A six-second clip is all it takes. Record in the app, or pick a delivery you already filmed.

Ball tracked automatically

The ball is detected frame by frame, so you can pick the exact release and impact moments.

Speed in km/h and mph

A clear reading for every delivery, so you can see how your pace changes over time.

How it works

  1. Film the deliveryKeep the bowler, the pitch and the batter in frame.
  2. Mark release and impactScroll the detected frames and tap the two moments that matter.
  3. Read the speedCricSpeedo calculates the ball's speed and shows it straight away.

Measure bowling speed without a speed gun

CricSpeedo works out speed the way a coach with a stopwatch would, only far more precisely: it measures how long the ball takes to cover a known distance. You tap the frame where the ball leaves the bowler’s hand and the frame where it reaches the batter, and the app divides the pitch distance by the time between them. On a full 22-yard pitch (20.12 m, 66 ft), a ball that takes half a second is travelling at about 145 km/h (90 mph).

Use the 66 ft preset for hard-ball cricket and 58 ft for tennis-ball and tape-ball cricket, or type the exact length of your pitch. Filming in slow motion gives you more frames to choose from, so the reading is more precise.

Frequently asked questions

Is CricSpeedo free?

Yes. CricSpeedo is free to download and use on Google Play. It is supported by ads, and you can watch an optional ad to skip the ad on a speed result.

Which phones does CricSpeedo work on?

CricSpeedo is available for Android phones running Android 7.0 or later.

How does CricSpeedo measure bowling speed?

You record or upload a clip of up to 6 seconds. CricSpeedo splits it into frames, you mark the frame where the ball is released and the frame where it reaches the batter, and the app divides the pitch distance by the time between those two frames.

How accurate is it?

Accuracy depends mostly on your phone’s frame rate and the frames you pick. Slow-motion video gives more frames and a more precise reading. Because CricSpeedo measures the average speed over the pitch, it can read lower than a TV speed gun, which records the speed at release.

Does it work for tennis-ball and tape-ball cricket?

Yes. Choose the 58 ft tennis-ball pitch or the 66 ft hard-ball pitch, or type the exact length of your pitch in feet.

What happens to my videos?

Your clip is uploaded only to measure the speed and is deleted automatically after the calculation. Your results stay on your phone. The privacy policy has the details.
